Students Injured In School Bus Incident Comments Off

According to news sources, about nine students sustained injuries on a school bus Monday in Lake Arrowhead when a radiator hose burst, spewing liquids and fumes into the passenger cabin area.

The bus, a 1994 Thomas bus, was traveling on Highway 18 when the accident took place, a California Highway Patrol official said. The school bus was reportedly heading towards Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School when the incident took place.

The radiator hose reportedly began spewing hot liquids or some kind of hot anti-freeze, reportedly resulting in a few minor leg burns for a few students. Other students complained about having respiratory problems and were subsequently transported to an area hospital.

The CHP is currently investigating the cause behind the mechanical failure that resulted in the radiator hose bursting.

Woman Dies In Single Vehicle Collision Comments Off

According to news sources, a woman was killed in a single vehicle collision that took place Sunday on Whites Canyon Road after her vehicle struck a pole on the roadway, causing a fiery accident.

The woman was traveling northbound on Whites Canyon Road in what was reported to be a red Ford Fusion when the accident took place. The woman was the only occupant in the vehicle in this single vehicle accident, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision set the vehicle ablaze while the woman was reportedly still inside. She died at the scene. The fire melted the signal box attached to the traffic pole the women collided with and there were other signs of intense fire.

The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash.

There were no other injuries or collisions reported in the accident.

High Speed Pursuit Ends With Drug Arrest Comments Off

According to news sources, a motorcyclist was arrested after leading authorities on a dangerous car chase and was later found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

The 38-year-old man sped off after a California Highway Patrol officer checked the plate on the Suzuki motorcycle the man was riding and it came back registered to a Harley Davidson and attempted to pull him over. The man sped off, leading the CHP officer on a high speed pursuit through Airway Boulevard, at times reaching speeds in excess of 60 mph.

The pursuit ended when the man attempted to slow down and turn left, only to maneuver drastically to the right, causing the pursuing officer to slam into the motorcycle. Both riders were thrown off the motorcycle and taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The were both found to be in possession of methamphetamine and they were subsequently arrested upon release from the hospital.

Motorcyclist Crashes Into Big Rig on Freeway Comments Off

According to news sources, a man was killed Saturday in a fatal accident after rear-ending a big rig truck and another vehicle on the San Diego Freeway.

The incident took place on the northbound lanes of the freeway close to Sunset Boulevard. The man was reportedly attempting to maneuver his motorcycle in a tight space between the third and fourth lanes on the roadway when the accident took place, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The 39-year-old Newhall man was traveling between 20 to 25 mph when he collided with the big rig. Subsequently, the man rear-ended a Toyota Corolla.

The CHP closed off lanes of the accident area of the freeway for several hours. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Fatal Collision on Lambert Road Comments Off

According to news sources, a fatal accident took place on Lambert Road when a woman driving a vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a power pole and a tree.

The 21-year-old woman was driving a Honda Accord, the California Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle crashed into a wooden power pole on the roadway and subsequently collided with a tree, the CHP said. There were three passengers inside the car at the time.

The driver and a woman passenger died at the scene of the crash. Two other woman inside the vehicle were transported to an area hospital.

Two other people were reportedly critically injured in the crash while a third was hospitalized as well after sustaining various cuts and broken bones.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.

Man Leads CHP on Dangerous Chase on Highway 1 Comments Off

According to news sources, a man led California Highway Patrol officers on a dangerous high speed car chase Sunday along Highway 1 and then reportedly attempted to flee on foot before being corralled by an officer and captured.

The 23-year-old San Jose man was driving a 2006 Altima traveling southbound on Highway 17, heading towards Highway 1 when a CHP officer attempted a traffic stop. The man reportedly sped off instead, accelerating at times to speeds up to 120 mph on the roadway.

The man exited at State Park Drive and hit the brakes hard in an attempt to flee on foot. A CHP officer drove past the vehicle and corralled the man and blocked his escape.

The man was subsequently arrested.

There were no other reported injuries or collisions in the incident.

Two Big Rigs Crash Into Car In Fatal Accident Comments Off

According to news sources, a man was reportedly killed Saturday when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and sending it crashing into two big rigs before getting forced into the center divider.

The 22-year-old man was driving a 2003 Nissan traveling southbound from Azusa Avenue when the accident took place, the California Highway Patrol said. The man was entering the main portion of State Route 60 when he seemingly lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

The mans vehicle was subsequently struck by a big rig, causing it to spin onto another lane, where it was struck once again, by another big rig on the roadway, the CHP said. The vehicle ended up being forced into the center divider.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Woman Killed Running Across I-680 Comments Off

According to news sources, a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday night on Interstate 680 while she was reportedly running across southbound lanes.

The 53-year-old woman was killed when a vehicle struck her on the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP officers suspect that the woman was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time when the accident took place.

A driver of an oncoming 2005 Honda reportedly attempted to avoid collision but was unsuccessful and struck the woman. Upon collision the woman was thrown onto the roadway and several vehicles on the roadway at the time reportedly crashed into her.

She died at the scene of the crash. The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident yet officers suspect that the woman may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Train Slams Into Big Rig In Thermal Comments Off

According to news sources, a train collided with a big rig on the train tracks Thursday, causing damage to both and resulting in the big rig dropping its load of grapefruits.

The accident took place near Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport along Airport Boulevard when the big rig was attempting to cross the train tracks, the California Highway Patrol said. As the big rig made its way through the tracks the crossing arm reportedly lowered and nestled itself in between the two trailers. The 47-year-old big rig driver then reportedly stopped the vehicle.

An oncoming Union Pacific freight train was unable to avoid collision when the train engineer activated the emergency breaks. Instead, the train slammed into the big rig truck, causing its rear trailer to spill its load of grapefruit. There was also damage reportedly sustained to the locomotive.

There were no other reports of collisions or injuries related to the accident.

Two Injured After Big Rig Crashes Comments Off

According to news sources, two people were seriously injured Friday morning on Interstate 10 when the big rig they were riding crashed as a result of the driver reportedly falling asleep behind the wheel.

The 35-year-old driver of the big rig was traveling west on Interstate 10 when he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel, the California Highway Patrol said. Another passenger was in the truck’s sleeper berth at the time when the accident took place.

The big rig reportedly crashed into a wash. No additional details as far as how exactly the crash unfolded have been made available yet. However, the driver as well as the passenger were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center and Palm Springs Hospital respectively for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash.

There were no reports about any other collisions or injuries.
