Young Stockton Girl Killed In Fatal Accident
A 9-year-old Stockton girl died Friday in an accident that took place Thursday after a van reportedly ran a red light and struck the girl on the roadway, according to news sources.
The accident took place at the South Stockton Avenue and Main Street intersection as the girl attempted to cross the roadway on a motorized scooter, witnesses told California Highway Patrol.
The girl sustained severe injuries in the crash and was reportedly thrown about 100 feet from the point of impact. The CHP said the girl had sustained burns to her body as well as severe trauma before being transported to an area hospital for treatment. She reportedly died Friday as a result of the injuries sustained.
The CHP are currently questioning the driver of the van and the investigation is ongoing. The sun setting may have contributed to a lack of visibility, the CHP said.
