Kern Deputy Crashes Patrol Car, Seriously Injured
According to news sources, a Kern County deputy was severely injured in a crash Thursday morning on Seventh Standard Road when his patrol car crashed into a guardrail in the center divider.
The deputy was traveling on the roadway when for unknown reasons he crashed into the guardrail. The California Highway Patrol said that there were apparent skid marks at the scene of the crash, suggesting that the deputy attempted to avoid collision.
The deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment after it took fire crews about an hour and a half to extricate him from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. Extricating the deputy was reportedly made harder because the guard rail impaled the vehicle and pierced the passenger cabin, a CHP official said.
The deputy was transported to an area hospital after sustaining serious injuries including major head trauma.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
