Avastin Breast Cancer Drug Approval Revoked By FDA
According to news sources, the approval of the drug Avastin has been revoked by The Food and Drug Administration after it was deemed to ineffective and unsafe for treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
The FDA announced the revocation of its approval of the drug after the drug was approved under the FDA’s accelerated approval program, which allows for certain drugs to be released for patient access while ongoing clinical trials take place.
The drug was reportedly found to have side effects including but not limited to heart failure, high blood pressure and hemorrhaging. The National Breast Cancer Coalition has also reportedly came out to support the FDA’s decision to revoke its approval of the drug, claiming that it did not show evidence of prolonging patients lives.
