Posted on: 01-17-2012 Posted in: accident injury, Accident Investigation, Hit and Run Accident, personal injury

According to news sources, a San Rafael police officer was injured in a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning when a vehicle reportedly pulled into his pathway and crashed into the police cruiser before the driver to vehicle involved reportedly drove away the scene of the crash.

The incident took place near 555 Francisco Boulevard East as the officer involved was reporting to a disturbance at Canal Street, the California Highway Patrol said. A vehicle then reportedly pulled into the pathway of the officer, who was unsuccessful in his attempt to avoid collision. The vehicle then drove away but was found abandoned just a short distance away. The driver of the vehicle and a passenger were subsequently located and apprehended by CHP officers while attempting to walk away from the abandoned vehicle.

The driver reportedly was unlicensed and uninsured. The officer was being treated for minor injuries in an area hospital.
