Oakland Multi-Car Accident Closes Lanes Along 880
The end of the week commute got a little bit trickier this morning for drivers in Oakland headed down the northbound side of Interstate Highway 880.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two left lanes in that direction had to be closed due to the occurrence of a multi-vehicle crash involving a jackknifed truck. The incident took place just north of High Street shortly after 10 am.
An ambulance had to be called to the scene as crews struggled to clear the roadways. Injury information has not been made available for the collision, which reports suggest may have included as many as six or seven vehicles. A later update to this story suggested that five vehicles were likely involved and that one such vehicle may have fled the scene.
Drivers in the area were advised to use Interstate Highways 238 and 580 until the lanes could be reopened, which occurred around 11 am. Big rigs, which could be especially affected by the closures, were allowed to use 580 until 12:30 pm.
As a car accident attorney in Oakland, I hate to see a multi-vehicle accident like this hit so close to home. I hope everyone involved in the incident is alright. Such occurrences are tragic when they happen in any part of the country, but this wreck is particularly saddening to an Oakland car accident attorney.
