Undeclared Presence of Sulfites Leads to Tremella Recall
Zhang Zhou brand Tremella is being recalled by S & M US Enterprise due to misleading ingredient labels. Reportedly these labels neglect to inform consumers of the presence of sulfite in the item’s contents, and could lead to a severe allergic reaction in persons who are allergic or otherwise sensitive to sulfites. People with asthma are particularly at risk for the dangers associated with sulfites, only 10 milligrams of which can cause anaphylactic shock.
The bags that may contain the sulfites have no identifiable code numbers, but come in sizes of 150 grams. They were only sold in the states of New Jersey and New York.
Buyers are advised to return any Tremella produced by Zhang Zhou company. Thankfully, there’ve been no reports of a severe reaction in association with this particular product as of yet.
As a personal injury lawyer in Roseville, I think that routine testing of food products is vital to ensuring the safety of those items that wind up in consumers’ homes. Testing by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets detected this issue, but all the testing and warning is all for naught if consumers don’t heed the recall information. As a Sacramento personal injury lawyer, I hope people understand the necessity of such testing and safety directives.
