Overturned Trailer Unleashes Cattle on Alabama Highway
Numerous obstacles can present themselves on the road, leading to traffic tie-ups and hazardous conditions. Stalled cars, overturned semis, downpours that choke visibility; all of these are a detriment to vehicles taking to the roads, but often the most dangerous circumstances come out of completely unpredictable situations.
One such unpredictable situation occurred in Macon County, Alabama early this morning, when drivers suddenly found themselves having to navigate a herd of cattle that wandered around the interstate.
A cattle truck overturned as the driver was headed down Interstate 85. The Alabama Department of Public Safety is investigating what caused the crash.
Although the driver of the vehicle sustained only minor injuries, many of the cattle were not so lucky. 18 out of the 109 animals being transported got loose, and workers with the Alabama Department of Transportation had to try to round them up. Before they could, though, four cattle were hit by vehicles. In total, 19 died as a result of the accident.
Signs were quickly placed along the roadway to warn drivers of the road hazard posed by the animals.
As a Sacramento car accident attorney, I’ve dealt with a wide variety of cases in my time, and I know that animals loose on the road can prove quite hazardous. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, it’s my advice as a Sacramento personal injury lawyer that you slow down to take stock of the situation and drive with the utmost caution.
