Spartan chasses recalled for brake failure hazard

Posted on: 03-30-2012 Posted in: News, product liability, Product Recall, Safety

A voluntary recall has been issued for 13 chasses manufactured by Spartan Chassis Incorporated because of the possibility the brakes installed in them might unexpectedly cease functioning. Spartan K2 and Spartan MG models produced between December 15, 2011 and January 31, 2012 are the affected products. The 3030 brake chambers installed on these chasses do not meet the federal government’s air brake systems performance requirements due to their substandard parking brakes and draw bars.

In some cases it may be possible for the parking brake to fail suddenly, causing the vehicle to move uncontrollably. In such instance a collision causing injury or property damage could ensue. Spartan Chassis will uninstall the 3030 brake chambers and install in their place brake chambers that do meet federal safety standards. Spartan has not determined a start date for its recall program as of this time, but after the chassis manufacturer notifies consumers, owners affected by this recall have their vehicles repaired by. The company will. Concerned owners seeking more information about this recall should call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline or visit its corresponding website. Consumers may also contact Spartan for further details.

As a Roseville car accident attorney, I am hopeful that this recall is conducted swiftly and efficiently, before this product defect causes anyone harm. If you or someone you care about was injured in a collision involving a defective automobile, please consider discussing your case with a Roseville personal injury attorney.
