Hit and Run Near Watts Kills Father, Injures Daughter
A hit and run claimed the life of a father Friday, and officials are hoping that witnesses might provide clues as to the whereabouts of the driver of the vehicle responsible.
The fatal accident took place near the city of Watts just before 6 at night. A man and his young daughter were walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Santa Ana Boulevard and Watts Avenue when, according to the California Highway Patrol, a Cadillac Escalade drove into the crosswalk and collided with the two pedestrians. The vehicle then reportedly drove away from the scene of the accident.
As a result of the hit and run, the father sustained fatal injuries and perished. His daughter suffered serious injuries and had to be transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She is listed as being in critical condition following the crash.
The CHP is investigating the hit and run, and they are urging anyone who knows something about the Escalade or its driver to come forward with information. The vehicle likely has damage to the front end and no longer has an ornament on the hood.
Being a car accident lawyer in Burlingame, I find this story to be absolutely tragic. An accident is one thing, but willfully driving away from the scene of a crash is deplorable. My heart goes out to the young girl injured in this collision, and I hope as a Burlingame personal injury lawyer that she can recover from the injuries forced upon her.
