BMW and Rolls Royce announce recalls
At the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two luxury car manufacturers have announced voluntary recalls for multiple vehicle models due to the same manufacturing defect. Vehicles affected by this recall include 2011 model year BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo and the standard 2011 model year BMW 5 series, the 2012 model year BMW 6 series, the 2012 model year BMW 7 series, the 2012 model year BMW X6, the 2012 BMW X5, and the 2010 and 2011 model year versions of Rolls Royce Ghosts. This vehicle recall affects approximately 70 models of Rolls Royce and more than 2,800 BMWs .The issue with all vehicles affected by this recall is a potential manufacturing defect in the electric auxiliary water pumps that can cause the circuit board to become overheated, and in vehicles with 8 to 12 cylinder turbocharged engines, the circuit board may even become inflamed. The automakers will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles of the potential safety issue in the near future. Owners can return affected vehicles to licensed dealerships, which will replace the electric auxiliary water pumps free of charge. Last month, BMW announced a recall of more than one million vehicles.
