Collision Between Bus and Mercedes Near Los Osos Proves Fatal
A car and bus crash between the cities of Los Osos and Morro Bay killed one person.
The incident occurred north of Turri Road on South Bay Boulevard at around 9 o’clock at night yesterday. According to witness reports made to the California Highway Patrol, a Mercedes drifted into the southbound lanes while it was traveling north. Unfortunately, a Route 13 Regional Transit Authority Bus was headed south at that time and the two vehicles collided with each other.
The driver of the Mercedes died instantly. The force of the collision propelled the bus down an embankment leading to the Morro Bay Estuary. Five people, including the driver, were inside the bus at the time of the crash. The driver and one other person had to be treated for injuries at a hospital.
As a result of the wreck and ensuing cleanup, officials were forced to totally close South Bay Boulevard and traffic had to be rerouted to Los Osos Valley Road and Highway 1. Officials estimated that the road would be reopened at around 2 am, but there’s been no confirmation if that was indeed what time the area was cleared. Tow trucks were sought to remove the bus from the estuary.
I’m sorry as a personal injury attorney in Sacramento to see yet another vehicle fatality along our roads. Head on collisions are some of the most brutal wrecks that can ever happen. Two vehicles going in opposite directions suddenly brought to a stop can cause massive damage. It’s my hope as a Sacramento car accident lawyer that crashes like this are rare.
