Big Rig Drifts Off Interstate 80 and Crashes in Truckee
Another single vehicle accident took place along California roads, except this time the vehicle in question wasn’t a car but a big rig.
The crash took place in the city of Truckee at around 10 o’clock in the morning yesterday. A tractor trailer belonging to Wal Mart was headed west along Interstate 80. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the semi fell asleep at the wheel around the time that the vehicle approached the offramp to Donner Pass Road. The vehicle drifted off the interstate and onto the exit ramp, at which point it careened off the pavement.
The big rig, which was carrying milk, eggs, and other assorted food products, came crashing down on its side along the freeway. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured as a result of the crash, and officers have reported that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Following the crash, officials arriving on the scene had to take care to remove potential environmental hazards. 10 gallons of oil and approximately 125 gallons of fuel were taken away from the truck while officers focused on cleaning the roadway and nearby area.
As a car accident lawyer in Sacramento, I’m saddened by any crash of course, but I am relieved to hear that no one was injured in this wreck. With a vehicle as large as a semi drifting off the road, many persons could be potentially injured if they are to find themselves in its path. I hope as a Sacramento personal injury attorney that drivers take proper precautions when driving around big rigs and their ilk.
