Fall Hazard Prompts Recall of Millions of Kennedy Step Stools
Kennedy International has announced the recall of a folding step stool that was sold between January 2010 and January 2012. These stools came in 9 inch and 13 inch varieties and were available in a wide assortment of colors. Some of the stools have “Kennedy Home Collection” printed on a label. A staggering more than 1.66 million stools are affected by the recall, with 64,000 residing in Canada and the other 1.6 million in America.
There have been 15 known cases of people facing a fall situation while using one of these stools. These have occurred because the folding stools can suddenly and without warning collapse or break while someone is sitting upon them. Three injuries have been reported, two of which involved a back injury plus one that left the victim with a leg fracture.
Consumers can identify the product by looking for style number 3575 or 3576 on the legs of the item. They were sold at a number of retailers in the United States and Canada, including TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods. They cost anywhere from $8 to $12. Kennedy International is offering a full refund on the stools, but customers are being advised to cease usage of the defective items until such time as they can be returned.
