Lassen County Big Rig Crash Kills Vehicle Passenger
A single vehicle crash involving an out of control big rig claimed the life of the truck driver’s passenger yesterday.
The incident took place at around 4 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday in Lassen County. A big rig with a trailer attached to it was headed east along Highway 44. The California Highway Patrol has stated that, when the vehicle was in the area west of Highway 36, the tractor trailer drifted off the lanes of the highway for reasons that are unknown at this time. It then careened off the road completely.
As a result, the semi truck continued down an embankment. In the process, it crashed into a number of trees positioned along the road. It didn’t stop until the force of the journey was so great as to cause the vehicle to flip over completely.
The truck driver had a passenger in the sleeper berth portion of the truck. At some point during the incident, this individual was partially thrust from the big rig. As a result of the serious injuries that this man sustained, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The other individual involved, the driver of the truck, reportedly did not suffer any injuries as a result of the crash.
