Two additional trailers targeted in Dexter brake actuator pump recall

Posted on: 05-24-2012 Posted in: Product Recall, Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has expanded their recall of trailers equipped with Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps to include two additional trailersCam Superline Incorporated. The trailer models affected by this recall are a single model year 2012 6CAM18C trailer and a single model year 2012 7CAM19STT trailer. The owners of the trailers affected by this recall expansion have been notified of the potential safety issue by Cam Superline Incorporated. The insufficiently heat treated Dexter brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps will be replaced with pumps that meet the manufacturer’s production standards at no additional charge. This voluntary recall has been issued due to the likelihood that the Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps mounted in these trailers may not have been properly heat treated during the manufacturing process. Insufficient heat treatment may cause the electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps to deteriorate more quickly than anticipated. This may create a situation in which the brake actuator pump fails without warning. The brakes in affected trailers may fail unexpectedly since the brake actuator pump is the power source for the trailers’ braking systems, increasing the danger the trailer will be involved in a collision possibly resulting in serious injury or death. Consumers seeking more information related to this recall expansion can contact the manufacturer directly or call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline.
