More than 300 motor coaches recalled due to flammability hazard

Posted on: 06-8-2012 Posted in: bus accident, car safety

A voluntary recall has been issued by Motor Coach Industries Incorporated for more than 300 of its motor coaches due to a fire hazard posed by a possible electrical system malfunction. This recall has been issued at the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for certain D4000, D4500, and D4505 motor coaches from model years 2009 to 2011 because of a safety issue related to the vehicles’ interior lighting system. The light emitting diode interior lighting system installed in affected motor coaches is powered by a Vansco or IO multiplex system that may draw excessive power from the vehicle’s electrical system, possibly causing a heat build up at the motor coach’s fuse block connector, possibly melting vehicle components in the process and posing a fire hazard if the components begin to burn. If the fire occurs while the motor coach is in motion, the possibility of the vehicle becoming involved in a collision will be increased. Motor Coach Industries Incorporated has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of its plans to begin notifying consumers in possession of affected motor coaches of the possible fire hazard. Owners of these vehicles may return them to authorized Motor Coach Incorporated dealers, where the vehicle will be rewired to correct this safety hazard at no cost to the consumer. The recall campaign number for this Motor Coach Incorporated vehicle recall is 388.
