Tiffin recalls Phaeton RVs due to brake failure risk
At the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Tiffin Motorhomes Incorporated has initiated a voluntary recall for two 2012 Phaeton recreational vehicles due to an issue with the air brake systems installed in these vehicles. These two recreational vehicles were built on Spartan chases equipped with 3030 brake chambers. The parking brake and draw bar installed on these 3030 brake chambers do not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard number 121, which regulates the specifications for air brake systems. Consequently, this may mean that the park brake cannot effectively hold the affected Phaeton recreational vehicles in place. If the recreational vehicles roll away unexpectedly after they have been parked, they may become involved in traffic accidents injuring pedestrians or motorists or causing property damage in the surrounding area. Tiffin Motorhomes Incorporated has notified the dealerships in possession of these affected recreational vehicles regarding this potential safety hazard. The Phaeton recreational vehicles included in this recall have not been introduced to the market yet, and authorized Spartan dealers will replace the defective brake chambers before the vehicles are sold to consumers. Consumers seeking more information regarding this recall may contact the manufacturer’s customer relations department, or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s toll free Vehicle Safety Hotline, and reference campaign identification number 12V228000. Selling a vehicle currently under safety recall is prohibited by law in the United States.
