Tens of thousands of strollers recalled after finger tip amputations
Kolcraft has issued a voluntary recall for its Contours Options three-and four-wheeled strollers, at the request of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada. This recall affects approximately 36,000 units in the United States and 270 units in Canada. The strollers affected by this recall are Kolcraft Contours Options three- and four-wheeled strollers with model numbers starting with ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018. On the ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018 models, the model number and date of manufacture is printed on a label sewn into the edge of back of the stroller seat pad. On the ZL002 model, the model number and date of manufacture is imprinted on a sticker affixed above the left wheel. The strollers were available in various color schemes and manufactured from January 2006 through November 2009.This recall was issued due to concern that the hinge mechanism may present a amputation or laceration risk to consumers handling the stroller. The manufacturer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have received at least five reports of consumers injured by this product: two from adults who suffered smashed or lacerated fingers when attempting to close the stroller, and three reports of children whose fingertips were amputated by the malfunctioning hinge mechanism. Consumers should contact Kolcraft at (800)453-7673 for information on how to receive a free repair kit. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is interested in hearing reports of injuries related to this product.
