Bath fans pose fire hazard, safety agency warns

Posted on: 06-29-2012 Posted in: News, Product Recall

In compliance with a request from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Harbor Breeze Bath Fans with Heater and Light exhaust fans sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores have been recalled by their manufacturer. The products included in this recall are white plastic Harbor Breeze bathroom fans measuring approximately 11 inches by 17 inches and equipped with a center light and a heater. The fan’s product packaging is imprinted with Model number 7109-01-L, Lowe’s item number 194492 and universal product code 820633985358. The fan blades pose a fire hazard due to a potentially malfunctioning fan blade that may cause the fan to overheat, according to the official recall notice posted on the safety commission’s website. To date, the manufacturer has received at least 11 reports of the fans overheating with smoke or flames, including 3 reports of minor property damage resulting from an overheating fan housing. Consumers in possession of affected bath fans should stop using the fans and contact the customer services department at Delta Electronics immediately to schedule a product repair. The fans included in this recall were manufactured in China by Delta Electronics(also known as Dongguan Company Limited) and imported into the United States by Homewerks Worldwide LLC, headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, for sale at Lowe’s hardware stores throughout the United States for an average price of around $90 between September of 2010 and March of 2012. These fans were also sold online via the lowes.com website.
