Rechargeable Nikon battery packs recalled by manufacturer

Nikon, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada is recalling rechargeable battery packs sold with digital SLR cameras. The affected battery packs pose a burn hazard. Consumers should stop using the recalled product immediately. Nikon has received several reports of battery packs short circuiting, overheating, and melting. Models SLR D800 and D7000 were sold with the recalled battery and batteries with an E or F in the ninth character of a 14 digit number are affected. Consumers can contact Nikon for a free battery replacement.
