Bill prohibiting the rental of recalled cars considered
Legislators in the United States House of Representatives will be considering a newly introduced bill that would prohibit rental car companies from renting out cars under recall for safety hazards. The bill is named for two women who were killed instantly when their rental car, currently under recall for a potential fire hazard, caught fire and collided with a semi-truck. Last month, three of the country’s largest rental car agencies – Enterprise, Avis, and Dollar Thrifty – declined a Congresswoman’s request to pledge to discontinue renting cars under safety recall. Only Hertz agreed to discontinue the practice.
