Ohio city considers stricter distracted driving laws
Proposed distracted driving legislation is causing a controversy in Bowling Green, Ohio. In addition to a recent statewide prohibition on certain types of distracted driving, such as text messaging, Bowling Green’s City Council seeks to prohibit any activity that divides the driver’s attention. This proposal has met with opposition, some questioning the subjective nature of the determination as to what is distracting. The proponents met this charge with the statement that officer discretion will avoid some spurious applications, and in the event of abuse a court will determine the facts. Two more readings are required for passage of the ordinance.
