Ohio city council considers prohibiting all distracted driving habits
An ordinance that would prohibit all forms of “distracted driving” on city roads is being considered by the city council of Bowling Green, Ohio. The proposed ordinance goes beyond the state’s upcoming ban on texting set to take effect in August of 2o12. The city’s ordinance, if approved by the council, would ban distracting habits of all sorts, including eating food,staring out a side window, adjusting the stereo, and any other practices that may take a driver’s attention away from the road ahead. Some citizens have expressed concerns that the law’s vague language and broad scope will endanger their civil liberties.
