Town of Silver City, NM, passes ordinance banning texting and driving
The Town Council in Silver City, New Mexico, recently passed an ordinance prohibiting motorists from sending and reading text messages while operating a motor vehicle on city roadways. The ordinance was originally intended to prohibit talking on a handheld cellphone while driving, as well, but the ordinance was later amended to focus only on texting drivers. Drivers in emergency situations are exempt from this ordinance, which also prohibits dialing a phone number while driving.
