According to news sources, a man in a wheelchair was struck by a total of two vehicles on the roadway Tuesday night in Madera County and died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
The 60-year-old man was in his wheelchair on the roadway at night time and reportedly wearing dark clothing when the accident took place. The man was reportedly heading north when a Ford pickup truck traveling northbound struck him, the California Highway Patrol said. The Ford was being driven by a 72-year-old Madera man.
Upon impact, the man was reportedly thrown towards the southbound lanes, where he was struck once again, this time by a Toyota pickup traveling southbound being driven by a 48-year-old Madera man.
Witnesses have reportedly told the CHP that the man allegedly had been drinking alcohol earlier that evening before the incident took place.
