Man In Wheelchair Fatally Struck on Roadway Comments Off

According to news sources, a man in a wheelchair was struck by a total of two vehicles on the roadway Tuesday night in Madera County and died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The 60-year-old man was in his wheelchair on the roadway at night time and reportedly wearing dark clothing when the accident took place. The man was reportedly heading north when a Ford pickup truck traveling northbound struck him, the California Highway Patrol said. The Ford was being driven by a 72-year-old Madera man.

Upon impact, the man was reportedly thrown towards the southbound lanes, where he was struck once again, this time by a Toyota pickup traveling southbound being driven by a 48-year-old Madera man.

Witnesses have reportedly told the CHP that the man allegedly had been drinking alcohol earlier that evening before the incident took place.

Man Hits Vehicle, CHP Motorcycle Officer Comments Off

According to news sources, an unlicensed man collided with a vehicle on the roadway and later hit a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer while getting assistance to exit the Santa Rosa Avenue off-ramp.

The initial accident took place on U.S Highway 101 north of Wilfred Avenue when the unlicensed mans Volkswagen Jetta reportedly crashed into a Dodge Ram traveling on the roadway, the CHP said.

The CHP officers on the scene managed to clear the area while the driver of the Dodge exited the roadway safely. However, as the driver of the Jetta was receiving assistance in exiting the roadway by a CHP motorcycle officer, the man reportedly suddenly made an abrupt right turn and hit the officer. The officer was subsequently ejected from the motorcycle, sustaining minor injuries in the incident.

The man was later found to be driving without a license while having two prior convictions due to driving without a license.

Truck Slams Into Tree, Killing Two Comments Off

According to news sources, two men from  the Bay Area were killed in an accident Tuesday night that took place near Highway 101 when the vehicle they were riding swerved, veered off the roadway and subsequently slammed into a tree.

The men were riding a Ford F-150 and were reportedly traveling at high speeds on Highway 101 when the accident took place, a California Highway Patrol official said.

A witness at the scene said that the vehicle then suddenly swerved, exited the roadway and continued about 150 off the road before finally colliding with a tree. The impact with the tree was seemingly made even more severe since the driver of the vehicle did not appear to have applied his brakes.

The collision left both occupants of the vehicle dead.

The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash.

DUI Suspect Hospitalized After Crash Comments Off

According to news sources, a man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested Monday and later released to a hospital due to severe injuries he sustained in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 101.

The 41-year-old man was driving a vehicle on Highway 101 traveling northbound when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and caused it to cross the median into opposing southbound traffic. The incident resulted in a head-on collision between the mans vehicle and another car being driven by a 19-year-old.

The collision caused the wheel of the vehicle being driven by the teenager to come off and hit a third vehicle on the roadway being driven by a 24-year-old woman. The occupants of both vehicles escaped without injury however the man was reportedly severely injured in the crash.

He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of major injuries sustained in the accident after being arrested and released based on medical grounds.

Teenage Girl Dies After Being Struck on Highway Comments Off

According to news sources, a young teenage girl was killed in a fatal accident Tuesday evening while attempting to cross the freeway and being struck by a vehicle on the roadway.

The 13-year-old teenage girl was walking with two of her friends on an overpass on Cedar Avenue before the girl decided to cross the Fresno freeway instead and meet her friends on the other side, the California Highway Patrol said.

The girl then proceeded to walk down a steep embankment and reached the freeway where she started attempting to cross. She reportedly crossed one lane before an Audi on the roadway struck and killed her.

Both the girls friends reportedly witnessed the accident from the bridge above, the CHP said. The girls identity has yet to be released.

Man Killed In Sacramento Police Car Accident Comments Off

According to news sources, a man was killed in a car accident Wednesday morning when he exited the vehicle and reportedly started walking in the middle of the roadway and was struck by a Sacramento police car.

The man was reportedly involved in an earlier accident that caused the Ford Mustang he was driving to spin out of control and exit the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man then reportedly exited his vehicle and proceeded to walk in the middle of the road, where he was struck by a Sacramento SWAT officer.

The man was was fatally injured in the crash and died after being transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital. The officer involved in the accident escaped without injury.

Authorities do not have any witnesses who saw the first crash and are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the initial incident that caused the man to walk on the roadway.

Woman Seriously Injured In Crane Accident Comments Off

According to news sources, a woman was seriously injured in an accident Tuesday morning on Interstate 10 when her vehicle crashed into a crane on the roadway, causing traffic delays and the closure of three out of the four eastbound lanes.

The 37-year-old woman was driving a black 2005 Toyota Prius when she collided with the construction crane on the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crane operator, a 52-year-old male, was operating it at the time and had the crane stationed in the center median, working on a construction project at Date Palm Drive. The CHP officer said that the crane operator then moved the crane towards the number one eastbound lane.

The woman sustained major injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Bicyclist Killed In Fort Bragg Accident Comments Off

According to news sources, a bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck Sunday being driven by a teenager on Highway 1 and died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The 82-year-old bicyclist was reportedly an avid rider who used to take the route along Highway 1 on a daily basis. The driver of the 1999 Ford F-150, an 18-year-old man, was traveling on the roadway at speeds of about 55 mph when the accident took place, the California Highway Patrol said.

The teenager reportedly drifted towards the right shoulder of the roadway for unknown reasons when he struck the man.

CHP officials investigating the accident have said that alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the accident and neither was cell phone use.

The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Suicide Determined In Single Vehicle Crash Comments Off

According to news sources, authorities have now reportedly determined that a single vehicle accident that took place Friday on Mt. Diablo where a woman was killed was a suicide.

The 58-year-old woman was traveling in an SUV near South Gate Road when the vehicle ran off the mountain, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The vehicle descended about 200-300 feet down an embankment before finally crashing onto the ground below. The incident threw the drivers body about 75 yards away from the vehicle.

She died at the scene of the crash. The CHP officer has confirmed that “several factors” came together in a way that made the CHP determine that the incident was in fact a suicide.

Woman Suspected of DUI Crashes Into House Comments Off

According to news sources, a woman suspected of driving under the influence Monday crashed her vehicle into a house Monday in Fair Oaks and was later arrested after the incident took place.

The woman was driving a Volkswagon Jetta at the time when she reportedly failed to make a turn on Madison Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said. The incident led to the car veering off the roadway and onto the front lawn of a private property. Subsequently the vehicle continued on its path and crashed into the front door of the house and entered into the living room area of the property.

The house reportedly sustained major damage in the incident yet no occupants inside the property were injured in the incident. The woman allegedly driving under the influence was later arrested. She was reportedly uninjured in the crash.

The property’s homeowner was reportedly just about to go to bed after locking up her house when the incident took place.
